Car Innovations for Accident Avoidance

Some rights reserved by Cedric_RamirezCar manufacturers are dedicated to providing their loyal customers with vehicles that are as safe as possible. The efforts that first started with seat belts and safety glass have now expanded to include cars that will actively help you avoid accidents. If you are in the market for a new car and want one that will help you stay safe at all times, then you should consider some of these impressive innovations.

Stay Safe in the City

Even though drivers know they should always keep their eyes on the road, there is always the risk of distractions. Whether you don’t notice traffic slowing down because of the kids arguing, the sun is in your eyes, or something else, the car can take notice of what you miss. Forward collision avoidance systems use laser sensors to detect vehicles in front of your car and monitor their speed. If a collision seems likely, the car will flash a dashboard light and sound an alarm. At speeds below 20 miles per hour, the program will actually apply the brakes to help avoid and minimize collisions. Extremely useful for drivers who spend time in heavy traffic at lower speeds, it’s a must-have for those people who live in busy cities.

Smart Chatting with Other Vehicles

Using a basic application referred to as the “Here I Am” data message, this system can constantly gather data from surrounding cars to help people avoid accidents. Data exchanged with other cars includes position, location, and speed. The system can then sense threats that may be around the car, calculate the risk, alert the driver, and even take pre-emptive actions to avoid an accident. An accessory that can be added on to cars, one of the great benefits of this system is that you don’t have to buy a new car to enjoy the benefits.

Move the Lights for Better Vision

Safe drivers are constantly looking ahead when on the road. They aren’t just viewing the next fifty feet on the road, but they’re looking as far as their line of vision will allow. Traditional lights severely limit your vision on winding roads at night, but adaptive headlights are changing that. The headlights actually move as you steer the car, so they are constantly pointing in the direction you are heading. Solid research based on accident claims shows that cars with this equipment have ten percent fewer accidents than cars with traditional headlights.

Driving Safer in Reverse

Many cars are now equipped with back-up sensors that scan the area around the rear bumper and sound an alarm if you are getting too close. Originally available only on luxury cars, they are becoming standard equipment for many cars. Families love them because they will alert you if someone left a bike behind the car, but they can also spare you the minor fender benders that may become major headaches.

There are several accident avoidance systems available to help you stay safe behind the wheel. While seat belts and air bags are ideal for keeping you safe in an accident, the great benefit of these systems is that you can avoid the accident completely. The next time you are in the market for a new car, make sure it has these features to stay safe, avoid accidents, and keep your insurance rates low.

Jaime Lapointe blogs about safety features in cars. New safety features will also decrease your car insurance payments. You can find affordable auto insurance at carinsurance.org.uk.

I'm amazed to see the technology within cars today, especially the features of safety. Essentially you had the seatbelt, the airbag and then nothing for what seemed like years. Yes brakes improved and side mirrors, but the advancements today are amazing. It's refreshing to see the car industry continue to try to create safer experiences for all cars and not just the most expensive. Thanks for the information and please come back and share more with the Lunch Break!
