They Stumble That Run Fast: A Look Back on the 2000s

Sometimes I have this really strange dream. It's all in black and white and things seem just slightly out of focus. It starts out in a tall office building and it sounds like there's a dark rave going on around me, except that I'm the only one there. Then, the building starts shaking and I get the sudden feeling that something's not right. So I just take off running, booking through this gray scale world, crashing through plate glass windows from roof top to roof top. There's shattering glass, scattering pigeons, but not another soul around and the ominous techno beat won't stop. And as I'm running frantically, searching for anyone, and trying not to fall off a building, I get the eerie temptation to look up but I know if I do, I'll be done for. It goes on like this for a while, but I know I can't hold out long. Around me, I can feel buildings falling and foreign, unfriendly things pressing in on me. So, for one split second I take my eyes off of the endless string of rooftops in front of me and look up. That's when it hits me, or rather I hit it. Everything stops, the dream goes blank, and I wake up.
