The Table: Olympic Empty Seats, Missing Facebook Phone, and Losing Phillies

jon smithInternational

Why isn’t anyone showing up at the Olympic games? The seats are going empty and Britain is trying to fill them quickly. Volleyball, swimming and other games are seeing a horde of open seats and no one is quite sure why? This is becoming a huge embarrassment for the host country who swore high ticket demand and sales just weeks ago. The Olympic committee is blaming the swath of tickets given to the corporate sponsors who never bothered to give them out. Whoever is to blame, the empty seats is emblematic of charging for amateur sports and the tickets should be free in a first come basis.

What Olympic event would you want to see the most? What event could they not pay you enough to fill a seat?

Phones are all the buzz. Facebook phone is obsolete and Apple is suing the buttons off of Samsung. Zuckerberg ‘s fortune fell 1.6 Billion in the recent drop of his social media company and many cite the absence of the promised phone. The CEO said there were never any ideas for a Facebook phone and they will stay a software company. Zuckerberg is heeding Bill Gates instead of Apple’s Jobs, who believed that the hardware and software experience should come from one place. Why not, since Apple has to sue everyone because companies blatantly steal, as Samsung is purported to do? Without hardware, Facebook stock will continue to fall.

Would a Facebook phone challenge the iphone?

All the hope that the return of Utley, Howard, and Halladay brought to the Phillies just two weeks ago, well, it is all gone and sailing to the Spring of 2013. The Atlanta Braves swept the Phillies this weekend in every possible way. Though the calendar has not changed to August, the date has the Phillies fans and media pundits closing up shop, selling off valuables, and praying for the return of Andy Reid. The names on the trading block are Shane Victorino, Joe Blanton, and Juan Pierre, but anything can happen now that the Phillies are in the selling mood. I see a deal with Hunter Pence and another player in return for bullpen and a third basemen. The Phillies have holes and it may be time to fill them.

Whom would you trade to make the team better in ’13?

1. I really want to watch Water Polo. It's intense and rarely seen on TV. I think I could watch anything at least once, so I can't really answer the second question.
2. I would buy it if it doesn't randomly brake for no reason whatsoever with no other fix except buying the same phone at a highly inflated price (I thought they were made in China for free), and as long as they don't build little, square buildings out of 1984 where everyone is dressed the same and are all equally nerdy in tone of voice and general mannerisms.
3. Sell Lee if you can. He's on the decline but still has amazing value on account of past success. We don't need two Ace left handers and even if we eat some of his contract, we'll still be better off in a year to buy 2-3 needed players in key positions. After him, it's the expected suspects- Victorino, Blanton, Pence. We can get some real value for those guys and be solid again in 13.
