Patrick Edmonds’ Ipod- What Are You Listening To?

Since I assume I am hardly alone in this same manner of music acquisition and admiration, I want to encourage a new component to our site in an effort to share our favorite songs and albums with each other.

    Clarence Clemons: The Saxophone Boss

Not many people have ever been able to change my mind about certain things, especially music, but I am happy to say Clarence Clemons and his saxophone not only changed my feelings towards the instrument but enhanced my love of music so much more.

    Birthday Blips: Sly Stone

I know music cannot prevent future disasters from occurring, but as I sit here and think about what my mother and the music she helped make me love does for me, I hope others can find comfort in music during hard times.

The Fourth R, Rhythm? Why Johnny Should Take Guitar Lessons

Since some schools are cutting back on extras like music, it is even more important for parents to step in and give their kids the gift of an instrument and lessons and encourage a life-long love of music.

    Beethoven, Brahms, and Bugs Bunny

All I really needed to know about classical music and world culture I learned by watching Saturday morning cartoons! I am a product of the 80s. With that comes a number of wonderfully nostalgic memories, including watching Saturday morning cartoons. Among them are Tom and Jerry, Bugs Bunny and Sylvester and Tweety, just to name a few. It wasn’t until college that I realized I actually knew Mozart, Gershwin and Beethoven because I had never chosen to listen to classical music. My choices lied in the Go Gos, Madonna and New Edition, hardly considered “classical” (although now, over 20 years later, may be considered classic!).

Up-and-Coming Giants of the Music Industry or Just Another Artist?

Well I'm back, after a brief absence from the blog scene. What, you may ask, has inspired this return? A national news story? A wise insight? A witty observation? A social criticism/commentary? Not quite, you guys will know me better than that in due time.

Sing a Song of Myself... Just Not That One, Please!

After two weeks of World Series baseball, and a one week recuperation from the torturous anguish of defeat to the Yankees, I now feel well enough to write again. And since I am on the subject of torture, I thought it only appropriate to contemplate the sad, yet equally hilarious story that appeared last month from Guantanamo Bay. You know the one, about the alleged terrorist inmates on the Marine Base Jack Nicholson used to be in charge of, and how they were brutally forced to endure the pain of listening to select songs for hours upon hours straight.

How To Shop At The Guitar Store

"Widdly widdly wahh! widdly widdly Wow Wah!" These are the sounds that greeted me as I came in the door during my last trip to one of those big guitar chain stores. The wailing guitar I heard on this particular excursion was broadcasted from an amp turned up just a little too loud and originated from the deft fingers of the store's assistant manager. Is it just me, or are these musician's superstores some of the most intimidating, uncomfortable places to shop? From the inflated prices to the fake, pretentious employees, large chain guitar stores are becoming too much to handle unless the consumer adopts the proper strategy.
